Poll : spectator mode & babel

Post by El Tyranos » Sat 5 Aug 2017 12:24

Hello,

In order to always improve the quality of our games, we often ask for players opinion on very specific topics. Today, I have 2 polls to submit to you. Those are here to let you express your opinion, but you can develop and debate in this topic, which is even more interesting.

Also, if you played recently (this summer or in june) and if you want to bring another subject, don't hesitate to do so.

Thanks for participating. :panda:

1. Spectator mode
After some feedbacks I have modified the spectator script. This is to be tested but here are the changes.

When you die, you can only see your friends icons in free cam / focus cam / FPS cam - and also on the map.
This means :
- You can still see the enemy in free cam but it's much harder to locate them as spectator as they are not marked by an icon.
- You can't focus in 3rd person view on a ennemy unit anymore (nor see it's nickname).
- You can't get into FPS view of an ennemy unit.

The downside to this is that it could get harder for both sides dead players to have fun together watching the game as spectators.
The benefit is that it would certaily make "ghosting" (telling your team mates the ennemy location via third party chat) much more annoying.

This setup will probably be tested on 1 out of 2 games next time but you can give your opinion on it on this poll :

2. Babel language
With ACRE2, it is possible to "encrypt" ennemy faction voices, so theylook like Half Life 2 combines voice. This way, germans can't understand americans at all, nor on direct voice, nor on the radio.
It is possible to set for example 1 or 2 translators per side who are able to speak and understand the opposite side's language.
When you die, other spectators are decrypted but you still hear the ennemies with babel, so you can't hear what your former ennemies are planning to do.

The downside are :
- Hearing babel will automatically tell you that the guy talking is an ennemy, you can't mismatch
- Spectators can't know what alive ennemies are telling to each other
- There is no way to communicate to opposite side, even to insult them in the middle of the firefight.
- Therefore there is no more need of any code like "flash/thunder"

The benefits are :
- Hearing babel will automatically tell you that the guy talking is an ennemy, you can't mismatch
- Spectators can't know what alive ennemies are telling to each other
- No radio spying is possible because you would hear the ennemy in babel (or you would have to bring the radio to a translator)

For this topic, I let you vote here :
